Green Eggs and Pancake

To celebrate the life and times of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, I woke up at the crack of dawn and made, what I thought to be, the most delicious green breakfast my kids have ever consumed.  Green scrambled eggs, green pancakes, and green orange juice graced the kitchen table of the Davis household this morning, including the dog’s dish.  In my effort to pay homage to dear St. Patty, I learned three valuable lessons:

#1  Most breakfast food is yellow in color which makes it very easy to turn it green—just add a couple drops of blue food coloring.

#2  Color does matter.  Despite the fact that the food I made had the same taste and texture as always, my husband and son weren’t convinced that green eggs were edible; hence my son’s plate was fed to the dog.

#3  Dogs don’t mind green food.  They will pretty much eat anything that is set before them—green eggs and pancake included.  And contrary to what most people think, dogs are not color blind.

What can I say?  I tried my best to be festive this morning and celebrate the 1/4 of me that is of Irish descent.  It’s a small quarter, but like the Canadian dollar, it’s strong right now!  So drink your green beer, paint your toenails green, wear a green shirt, but I would advise against feeding your family green food for breakfast.
